On 21 February, the recipient of this year’s Ernst Jaakson memorial fund scholarship was announced at the ceremony of the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in the University of Tartu assembly hall. The 18,000-euro scholarship was awarded to Kristjan Kalam, a Research Fellow in Materials Science at the Institute of Physics.

The University of Tartu organised the largest number of international conferences in Tartu last year, and 13 of them won recognition.

The University of Tartu research award 2024 went to an extraordinary discovery that in industrial hot spots, anthropogenic air pollution causes snowfall and reduces cloud cover.

In the week leading to the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, the University of Tartu announced the recipients of the university's contribution to society award, research award and language award, and the teaching staff of the year award.

On 25 October, the University of Tartu senate decided to award the University of Tartu Grand Medal to Professor of International Business Urmas Varblane. Also, the recipients of the University of Tartu Star of Appreciation, Medal, Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu” have been announced.

On 27 October, the University of Tartu senate decided to award the Johan Skytte medal to Margit Sutrop, member of the Riigikogu and Professor of Practical Philosophy at the University of Tartu. The highest award granted to university members, the University of Tartu Grand Medal, is given to two university researchers for services of particular value. Also, the recipients of the University of Tartu Star of Appreciation, Medal, Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu” have been selected.

On 20 March, the University of Helsinki announced that Riho Altnurme, Professor of Church History at the University of Tartu, and Madis Noppel, Specialist of Aerosol Physics at the University of Tartu

Based on the proposals submitted by students, the committee formed by the UT Student Union has chosen the recipients of the teaching staff of the year awards for 2022.

Rector of the University of Tartu Toomas Asser announced the university's contribution to society award, research award and language award and recipients of the teaching staff  of the year award.

The expatriate Estonian visiting professorship will be held by Annela Anger-Kraavi and Mart Kuldkepp.
